I am wondering if there is a way via the Patreon API to allow patrons to pay? Or does this only work through the Patreon site?
You can get the url for someone to pledge with a specific reward, but as far as I’m aware, there is no method to set or change a patron’s pledge via the API.
Might be something to add to the API wishlist over here.

Currently we don’t support this because implementing this correctly will take a lot of resources. We do plan to do this one day, but since we need to do it securely and without breaking user’s trust, we need to plan such roll out carefully.
