Hey, adult game dev here
I’m looking at making a download site for my game, cos uploading and downloading through Patreon is… not great lol, especially when my internet disconnects all the time and it wont let me resume a download.
The idea is simple: you log in with Patreon, the site checks you’re a paid member of my specific page and have the right tier, then lets you download.
The bit I’m trying to figure out is the UK age verification side.
What checks does a UK user actually have to complete before they can become a paid member of an Adult/18+ creator? Is it ID/selfie verification, some other check, or just confirming they’re over 18? And does that also cover existing members?
My thinking is, IF Patreon has already verified that they’re 18+, and my site checks that exact membership, would they really need to verify again just to download the thing they’ve paid for?
Is there anything in the API that confirms they’ve passed an age check? Or any official guidance on relying on Patreon membership for this?
I’m specifically asking about UK users subscribing to an Adult/18+ page.
Anyone already dealt with this? Feels like something other 18+ devs must have run into…
(For context this is for the UK’s online safety act, where if you deliver 18+ content to anyone online you MUST check they are over 18 with an ID check or similar)
